I. OPENING QUESTION
If Christ redeemed us, why do so many believers live beneath the calling of the authentic Church?
What keeps us from living redeemed lives that truly reflect Christ?
II. DEFINITION: REDEEMED
Redeemed (Greek: lutroō) – to be rescued from loss, to buy up. (Luke 1:68)
He redeemed us for a reason: to be the man or woman He has called us to be.
Redemption demands renewal—without it, we default to the old self.
III. THE CALL TO RENEWAL
Romans 12:2 – “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Renewal (anakainĹŤsis) = to renovate, restore to a former better state by repairing or rebuilding.
Renewal is daily, not weekly (Acts 2:46–47).
Without renewal, the Church cannot be presented to Christ as spotless (Eph. 5:27).
IV. THE FUNCTION OF THE MIND
Romans 12:2 / Philippians 2:5
Mind = intellect, understanding, perception, attitude.
Key Components of the Mind:
Cognition – Thought, reasoning, memory
Consciousness – Awareness of self & surroundings
Emotion – Feelings, beliefs, desires
Perception – Interpreting environment
Attention – Ability to focus (excuse “it’s hard to study” is invalid)
Imagination – Ability to form mental concepts
Motivation – What drives actions & intentions (our biggest problem)
Personality Traits – Characteristics shaping behavior
➡️ The mind stores memories like files—what you choose to access influences your walk.
V. THE CARNAL MIND VS. THE SPIRITUAL MIND
Romans 8:6–7
To be carnally minded is death; to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
The carnal mind is hostile toward God, resists His law, and feeds excuses for disobedience.
You can’t control every thought, but you can choose which ones shape your behavior.
VI. SIGNS OF AN UNRENEWED MIND
Lives as if God expects nothing.
Fights against sound doctrine.
Hates accountability.
Thrives on trauma and attention.
VII. SIGNS OF A RENEWED MIND
Lives a Kingdom-centered life.
Is not easily offended.
Welcomes accountability.
Responds quickly to God’s voice.
VIII. THE NEED FOR INDOCTRINATION INTO THE FAITH
Indoctrination = teaching by repeated instruction until deeply instilled.
Other religions indoctrinate—why not Christianity?
We cannot be renewed if we are not indoctrinated in truth.
Weekly gatherings are not enough; we need daily saturation in the Word.
IX. QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
When people look at the Church, what do they see?
When people look at you, what do they see?
X. FINAL CALL: RENEW YOUR MIND TO BE THE AUTHENTIC CHURCH
The Church is not just a place to gather information but to live transformation.
Renewal of the mind is essential to walk in God’s purpose.
It’s time to show the world what Christ is like—authentically, consistently, and boldly.
